The typical construction system for a natural some outdoor pavement consists of the following elements:

PN: natural stone pavement
BA: support and adherence base
CN: leveling layer
LI: waterproof layer
BE: structural base
G: geotexile layer
SG: granular subbase
E: subgrade

  • The subgrade is the support for the entire pavement system. It must encounter natural soil which has been previously compacted and, sometimes, improved. In the case of inner pavings, when it treats  of plants of flats, as it is logical, this layer does not exist, since it supports  this on a framework.
  • The granular subbase is the layer of granular material situated between the rubble base and the subgrade.
  • The structural base consists of a support layer. This layer may be flexible, semi-rigid or rigid. In the case of inner pavings, this base is used to to be constituted by a support or a framework.
  • Layer of levelling or regularisation: this layer has to award the flatness demanded by the material of hold and of this form level it, or arrive to a clear-cut height.
  • The support and adherence layer, which supports the stone may consist of a mortar cement, adhesive or sand. It constitutes the element of union between the slab and the structural base.
